A High-Tech Interactive Maquette at MIPIM Cannes

In one of my most innovative projects, I blended 3D printing, interactive lighting, and real-time animation to create an interactive maquette experience that captivated audiences at MIPIM in Cannes, France. This project aimed to familiarize potential buyers with specific buildings they were interested in, using a seamless integration of tactile and digital technology.

By combining a 3D-printed transparent model, a large TV display, and an iPad application, this project set a new standard for immersive real estate marketing.

The Vision Behind the Project

Real estate is as much about creating a connection with the potential buyer as it is about showcasing the property. This interactive maquette was designed with this goal in mind: to make the buying process intuitive, engaging, and deeply personalized.

Here’s how it worked:

  • 3D-Printed Maquette: A scale model of the development was 3D printed in a transparent material, creating a stunning physical representation of the buildings. Each building was meticulously detailed, making it easy for buyers to visualize the layout of the development.

  • Interactive Lighting: Using the iPad application, visitors could select a specific building on the model. This action triggered a corresponding light to illuminate the chosen building, highlighting it within the maquette. This tactile interaction created a direct link between the physical and digital worlds.

  • Dynamic TV Display: Behind the maquette, a large TV showcased a looping animation of the development with a real-time day-night cycle. Controlled via the iPad, buyers could adjust the time of day, observing how sunlight and shadows interacted with their chosen building. This feature added a layer of realism and context to the experience.

Language Accessibility

To cater to the diverse international audience at MIPIM, the iPad application offered multi-language support. At the touch of a button, the interface could switch between Japanese, French, Spanish, and other languages, ensuring that everyone could engage with the experience comfortably.

Why It Stood Out at MIPIM

Presenting this project at MIPIM, the world’s leading real estate market event, was a defining moment. The interactive maquette became an instant crowd-puller, drawing attention from developers, investors, and potential buyers. Here’s why:

  1. Immersion: The combination of a physical model and digital animation offered a uniquely immersive experience that traditional brochures or static models couldn’t match.
  2. Interactivity: The ability to control lighting and the day-night cycle via the iPad allowed buyers to visualize their prospective properties in detail, empowering them in their decision-making process.
  3. Innovation: By integrating 3D printing, lighting technology, and real-time animations, this project demonstrated a forward-thinking approach to real estate marketing.
  4. Accessibility: The multi-language feature underscored the inclusivity of the experience, catering to MIPIM’s global audience.

The Technology Behind the Magic

Creating this interactive experience required a fusion of advanced technologies:

  • 3D Printing: Precision 3D printing techniques were used to craft the transparent maquette, ensuring every building was detailed and durable.
  • Lighting Control: Custom circuits and LEDs were embedded in the display to enable the targeted illumination of individual buildings.
  • iPad Application: The app was designed to control both the lighting and the day-night cycle animation on the TV. Its user-friendly interface made navigation and customization effortless for all visitors.
  • Real-Time Rendering: The day-night animation on the TV was created using high-quality rendering techniques, ensuring smooth transitions and realistic lighting effects.

Impact and Feedback

The interactive maquette was a major highlight at MIPIM, attracting a steady stream of visitors throughout the event. Potential buyers appreciated the hands-on, personalized experience, while industry professionals praised the innovative use of technology in real estate marketing. Many described it as a game-changer for how developments are presented to clients.

Looking to the Future

This project exemplifies how emerging technologies can redefine customer engagement in real estate. From 3D printing to real-time rendering, the possibilities are endless when creativity meets technology. Whether it’s showcasing buildings, entire developments, or even cityscapes, this approach opens new doors for immersive and interactive experiences.
